Learn a valuable craft
Camera operation, composition, light, ethical storytelling, editing, and equipment care become useful, repeatable skills.
St. Louis youth photography · Launching March 1, 2027
The world is about to look different.
Here, young photographers do more than take pictures—they learn to notice, explore, create, and tell stories that matter. Every student becomes one of the Pixels: a curious crew building real skills, real confidence, and a life worth capturing.
Student support is tracked separately and applied only to approved Pixels’ tuition or equipment. It is never distributed as owner profit.

Why PIXELS Academy matters
Photography asks young people to slow down, go outside, notice what others miss, and interact with the world instead of watching it pass through a screen.
Camera operation, composition, light, ethical storytelling, editing, and equipment care become useful, repeatable skills.
Pixels use technology with intention—planning images, solving visual problems, and building work they can be proud of.
Monthly adventures bring students into parks, trails, wildlife spaces, and community settings with careful adult guidance.
Every Pixel learns to make decisions, explain their work, accept feedback, and see their progress in a growing portfolio.
Two monthly story tracks
The Adventure Track pairs a preparation class with a guided location shoot and a two-hour adventure editing lab. The Studio Track pairs a separate studio skills class with a two-hour studio shoot the following week and its own two-hour editing lab. Studio and adventure editing classes are held on the same day in separate sessions.
Every session is optional and available à la carte. Students save significantly when they complete the three-part Adventure or Studio Story Track.

PIXELS Academy provides equal opportunity for consideration without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or family income. Enrollment is limited, and applying does not guarantee acceptance.
Families and students agree to a code of conduct. The Academy is a focused educational program and is not a drop-in childcare service.
Three clear ways to learn
Start outdoors, build in the studio, or give a young photographer the complete Academy year. Every track follows the same memorable rhythm: prepare, photograph, edit.

Optional monthly rentals
Students are not required to buy equipment from PIXELS Academy. They may bring an approved camera, rent one for supervised Academy use, or rent a take-home kit for additional practice.
Take-home rentals require a signed guardian agreement, a refundable deposit based on the kit’s replacement value, and a valid guardian card securely kept on file by the payment processor. PIXELS Academy does not store card numbers. Read the equipment policy.
Optional equipment ownership
Each Pixel receives a personal recommendation before purchase. These bundles are separate from tuition and rentals; exact camera models and final prices depend on availability, condition, compatibility, and the student’s goals.
A starter bundle is an optional equipment purchase. It is not supplied with tuition, and PIXELS Academy will not substitute or sell a kit until the family receives and approves the written recommendation.
Parent volunteer credit
Approved parents and guardians may earn credit toward their child’s tuition or required equipment by serving in scheduled Academy support roles. Opportunities depend on actual program needs and are never guaranteed.
Volunteer roles require an application, identity verification, appropriate background screening, orientation, reliable attendance, and compliance with all supervision and youth-safety rules. Credits are documented in advance and applied only after verified service.

Choose the kind of support that matters to you. You can cover a student need, help equip a young photographer, or add any amount to the Academy’s student-support pool.
Give an approved student tuition credit for a full cycle or contribute any amount toward one.
Support a studentHelp an approved Pixel receive the camera, lens, battery, bag, or other required equipment they need.
Fund equipmentContribute any amount to the student-support pool. Every dollar becomes tuition or equipment credit for an approved Pixel.
Build the student fundA $50 Academy contribution does not pretend to cover a whole tuition or camera. It becomes $50 of real credit toward an approved Pixel’s tuition or required equipment. Contributions may be combined until a student need can be fulfilled.
PIXELS Academy is a for-profit educational program. Support is not represented as a tax-deductible charitable contribution. LENS records it in a separate student-support ledger, does not distribute it as owner profit, and applies it only to approved student tuition or equipment. Student identities remain private unless a parent or guardian separately authorizes sharing.
Equipment donations
Working used cameras and photography equipment can help a Pixel learn a craft, step outdoors, and start seeing possibility through a different lens.
